Museum Night busiest day in 2015

On 7 November, the Van Gogh Museum had a record number of visitors: 12,590 in total. As part of Museum Night Amsterdam, the museum stayed open until 02.00. More than 8,000 people visited the museum for the exciting night programme. Museum Night visitors were entitled to revisit the museum free of charge by showing their Museum Night ticket. Almost 10% of visitors made use of this offer.

Highlights

One of the highlights during Museum Night was the ‘virtual bedroom’. The Google Cultural Institute and Veejays.com created a virtual reality simulation of the bedrooms painted by Munch and Van Gogh made of their bedrooms. This enabled visitors to literally walk through the masterpieces.

Other highlights included the work of visual artist Geoffrey Lillemon, the interactive piece ANNA by Nick Verstand & Frouke ten Velden which explores how people have an emotional relationship with an artificial entity. Another highlight that drew a lot of attention was the act by House of Makers, in which letters by Munch and Van Gogh were translated into a dance performed by students from Codarts. And of course there was also a lot of music, by acts such as Easter, Malawi, Polynation and Applescal.
