Commemorating death anniversary

Even today, Van Gogh's life and work inspires millions of people around the world. To mark the 125th anniversary of his death on 29 July, the Van Gogh Museum, the Institut Van Gogh Auvers and the Van Gogh Europe Foundation worked together to organise an honourable day of commemoration. All the activities incorporated the theme ‘125 years of inspiration’.

On Museumplein in Amsterdam, the Bloemenscorso Zundert (Zundert Flower Parade) revealed a colossal self-portrait of Vincent van Gogh made from 50,000 dahlias. On the same day, the Van Gogh Museum launched The Vincent Van Gogh Atlas at Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise, where Vincent van Gogh died. Afterwards, relatives of Van Gogh placed sunflowers and yellow dahlias on Van Gogh's grave, just outside Auvers-sur-Oise.
