Carpet design competition

Vincent on Friday & Desso

In cooperation with carpet manufacturer Desso, the Van Gogh Museum held a competition for the design of a carpet to decorate the hall of the museum during the Friday Nights. On the Friday evening of 27 November, director Axel Rüger announced the winning designer, and the carpet could be seen for the first time on the floor of the museum's new entrance building.

Colombian design

Vanessa Valero, a young Colombian designer with a graphic art background won the competition with a carpet inspired by Van Gogh's The Starry Night. The entries were judged by a professional jury: Roland Jonkhoff (director of Desso), Axel Rüger (director of the Van Gogh Museum), Bas Kosters (designer/artist), Thomas Widdershoven (director of the Design Academy), Léon Stolk (creative director of Bourne Design), Sinja Bloeme (marketing adviser, Van Gogh Museum) and Sanne Remmerswaal (former programmer of the Friday Nights).

Desso turned the winning design into a carpet which now graces the museum every last Friday evening of the month.
